WELCOME TO METAL SKOOL.
(everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask)
What you are about to read is a complete guide to supporting METAL SKOOL. The list that follows is so that we may assist your band in doing the best show possible for the biggest show on a Monday night in Hollywood. (If you do not get all 3 pages contact us. Otherwise we will assume you’ve received and reviewed this carefully)
To make things easy and fun for everyone we (Key Club) supply backline (cabinets) and drums for all the openers (that’s you).
THE HOUSE GEAR YOU WILL BE USING:
The drum kit is a TAMA Star Classic four piece. (It is a pretty pearl rock star blue…apparently color has mattered to some and we still laugh about that) It consists of a 22” bass drum, 12” rack tom, 16” floor tom. We have five cymbal stands – 3 boom, 2 straight, 1 hi-hat stand, 2 snare stands, 1 Iron Cobra power glide double HP900PTW (if needed) and a throne. In order to assure that we capture YOUR sound we encourage your drummer to bring their own cymbals, kick pedal(s) and snare. This applies to any extra percussion (congas, bongos, trash can lids etc…) as well. The heads are changed every two weeks.
BASS:
We provide a full bass rig. An Ashdown 8x10 and an SWR 750x head are at your disposal. (We encourage you to bring your own head) The bass cabinet STAYS on stage right. It DOES NOT move.
GUITAR:
We provide two* guitar cabinets – stage left and right - (Ibanez 4x12 with Celestion Vintage 30’s) *there is a third cabinet of top quality available for the rare third guitar player. All we need from you are your amps (heads) and we insist that you bring them so you won’t have to spend time dialing in your tone on an unfamiliar amp. If you don’t have amplifiers we also have two Ibanez Thermion 120s that are excellent heads.
PLEASE DO NOT BRING ANY CABINETS OR A DRUM KIT** you WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE IT.
**However, there is an exception to this rule. If you employ a combo amp or any other unique amplification system for your instrument that’s fine by us. Bring it.
If you have any special needs (i.e. iPod, in-ears, samplers, laptop, aforementioned percussion, turntables, accordion, spoons etc.) please let us know in advance, and we will be better prepared to accommodate you. Just to play if safe, it would prudent of you to bring any cables, extensions, adaptors, power supplies etc. We might have it in house, then again we might not. Help us help you.
KEYBOARDS:
We don’t have any keyboards, but we know what they look like. Please let us know if you plan to bring any keys, playback units, etc.
SET TIMES, SOUND CHECKS and LOAD IN:
Set times are as follows:
DOORS OPEN 8:30
1ST BAND 9:10 – 9:40
2ND BAND 10:10 – 10:40
3RD BAND 11:00 – 11:30
METAL SKOOL 12:00 – 2:00
This is a very long and late running show hence WE DO NOT SOUND CHECK support acts.
The 9:10 P.M. band will get a line/sound check by nature of being on stage first. Please have 9:10 band arrive at 7:00 for a line/sound check.
The 10:10 and 11:00 slot bands will get a quick line check before their set – time permitting of course - but fear not, we’ve done this a couple of times.
Please arrive ONE HOUR before your set and check in with the stage manager. He will have your wristbands that will allow you access to the venue during the evening. You will need to have a wristband so production and security will know why you are wandering around the stage. Wristbands are for band and crew only. Limit one crew member per band member.
Plan your set length accordingly we WILL NOT allow bands to go overtime. THIS IS NON-NEGOTIABLE. Really, we’re not kidding.
PARKING:
You are allowed to park ONE vehicle* that has band gear in the production lot located on the east side of the building which is off Wetherly St (make a left into the lot). There will be someone outside to assist you. *If for some reason you have a van and trailer we recommend arriving no later than 7pm regardless of your time slot to assure proper parking. We have a special way for you to park. The Key Club does NOT pay for your parking. Sadly, there isn't parking for all the band members. We recommend street parking or one of the adjacent pay lots. And NO you can’t park in front of the club. *Please be advised that if you leave your vehicle in the lot after 10pm you run the risk of being blocked in until 2am. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
GUEST LIST POLICY:
PLEASE ALPHABETIZE YOUR LIST!
11:OO band gets 20 person guest list- closes 15 minutes after their set starts
10:00 band gets 50 person guest list-closes 15 minutes after their set starts
9:00 band gets unlimited guest list- closes 15 minutes after their set starts
Under 21-2 drink minimum applies to guest lists and tickets as well unless otherwise noted
Please do your best to refrain from throwing ANYTHING (this includes WATER!!! Please try and keep the stage and everyone around you dry) from the stage into the audience. The only obvious exception being T-shirts and guitar picks. If you have CDs that you want to give away either arrange to have them at your merch table or hand them to the crowd. Anything else must be approved in advance. And although it should go without mentioning it, we’re going to anyway: ABSOLUTELY UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ARE THERE TO BE ANY PYRO, FIRE BREATHING OR ANYTHING INVOLVING AN OPEN FLAME ON STAGE. THE ANSWER IS UNEQUIVOCALLY NO.
Speaking of merchandise, there are tables located in the lower level next to the restrooms that are available to sell your merch. That is the ONLY place you can sell from. The Key Club does not have anyone to sell your merch for you. You will need to provide someone.
Lastly, you will have a dressing room that is shared by all three bands. There will be a limited supply of water provided for all the bands The dressing room is large grey bus located in the back alley behind the club. You will be able to utilize this area until the 3rd band has concluded their set (11:30) and then the bus will be locked.
When all is said and done, we are excited to have you play and if you have any other concerns or questions please read this again for good measure, then feel free to contact us and we will sort you out.
Thank you,
Key Club Production
